When you’re distracted you lose precious time, might end up not getting enough sleep, increase the likelihood of procrastination, and become stressed which affects your mental health at the end of the day.
It’s important to deal with distractions so you can stay on track with your plan, boost productivity, make progress toward your goals and dreams, and ultimately achieve great success.
I know that as faith-driven women and entrepreneurs, there’s often a constant pull between family, work, and personal goals. It’s easy to get swept up in the busyness, feeling overextended and disconnected from our purpose. We even feel guilty for wanting to focus on our own big dreams, right?

They include doubt, frustration, lack of motivation, fear of failure, our own expectations about what we “should” be doing, distracting thoughts that overwhelm us, or a desire to quit on our goals.
Then there are external distractions like a noisy environment, constant ping of notifications on electronic devices, binge-watching TV shows, too many phone calls, or an endless task list that keeps growing or responsibilities we feel obligated to say “yes” to.
Whatever the source, distractions can cause a lack of focus and slowly pull us away from important tasks and the things that matter most, creating a sense of busyness without real purpose.
For me, I’ve had seasons where I felt like I was on a hamster wheel, constantly doing things but never actually making progress on my God-given dreams.
I remember a time not too long ago when I felt totally overwhelmed by the demands of work, family, and a million small tasks that kept piling up. It felt like I was always on the go, but never actually moving forward on the important things that truly mattered to me. Sound familiar?

In the digital age, it’s so easy to spend more time on your cell phone which distracts you and leads you to lose sight of what truly matters.
For me, one of the best ways I’ve set boundaries is through “no cell phone” hours—times when I intentionally step away from screens, constant notifications, and online distractions and stay fully present.
Another boundary I set is designating specific times that are blocked for spending time with family, working, investing in personal growth, and engaging in physical activity like running or taking a short walk.
It doesn’t mean I have it all figured out, but these boundaries make a huge difference and help me stick to my goals no matter what. And the newest one is really making a sabbath day a priority where I don’t open my computer for work at all and just do what I feel like doing, no plans, no agenda, no work.
Boundaries might look different for each of us, but here are some examples to consider: setting aside dedicated family time each evening or establishing “work-only” hours where you’re fully focused.
It could be removing the potential distractions of electronic devices and creating tech-free zones in your home to be more present and give each other your full attention.
Remember, setting boundaries isn’t about shutting people out—but it’s the best thing you can do to create the structure you need to thrive and be fully present in the areas that matter most.

The other popular technique is the Pomodoro Technique. You use a timer and set a 25-minute work period then take a 5-minute break. Then work again for 25 minutes and take another 5-minute break.
This method where you take a short break constantly while working on a single task promotes laser-like focus and improves your concentration skills. It also ensures that you avoid multitasking, produces higher-quality work, keeps you motivated, and ultimately reduces burnout.
With cell phones being the most common distraction in our generation, you can use apps and tools that act as non-work related website blockers, and limit push notifications so you can manage your time better.

One of the most effective ways to reconnect with your dreams is to visualize the results. How will you feel when you achieve your current goals? How do they relate to your bigger vision and purpose in life?
Using a vision board helps you focus on the final outcome and work through any roadblocks, or setbacks you may be experiencing on the way to your dream life.
There have been times in my own journey when I experienced a lack of clarity, almost as if I’d lost sight of what God had originally called me to. The only way that I could get through those seasons was to pause and get quiet—to pray, to journal, to just be still and listen.
Taking this time helped me realign my heart and mind, giving me the mental clarity I needed to see my goals as more than just items on a checklist. They are part of God’s bigger plan for my life, and they have a purpose far beyond my satisfaction.
Friend, sometimes we need to ask ourselves if our current specific goals are still in alignment with what God is calling us to do in this season. It’s okay if they’ve changed or if God is leading us in a new direction.

Whether it’s a few quiet moments in the morning with a Bible verse or a short pause before each meal to give thanks, these small practices anchor me. They remind me of God’s presence and help me refocus on the day’s purpose, not just its tasks.
When I skip these moments, I find myself getting swept up in the busyness, and experiencing mental clutter. But when I stay consistent, I feel more grounded and able to overcome obstacles and keep my goals in sight.

For me, simplifying my goals was transformative. When I was training for the Boston Marathon while balancing motherhood and being a business owner, I realized I couldn’t pour myself fully into everything at once.
I had to let go of a few things temporarily and spend less time on other tasks so l could stay focused on my training and my family.
This wasn’t giving up on my other dreams; it was simply pausing them until the time was right. By narrowing my focus, I could give my all to the things that mattered most without burning out. This laser-like focus made the biggest difference to my life at that stage.
